Emya is a small woman, just barely approaching average height, with a slight build padded out with weight that has only just started to cling to her tummy and thighs. She leads a reasonably active lifestyle, so her stamina is good, but Emya has never been a powerhouse and relies on the assistance of others when she needs something heavy moved. Her hair is short and dark brown, the same warm colour as her eyes, but her skin has never been particularly dark. Emya's manner is quiet and cautious, but not unfriendly. Overall she comes across as nonthreatening, a young woman of no particular status whom the elite can order around with impunity and the underprivileged can approach with minimal fear of abuse. Emya is usually dressed in functional, inexpensive clothing, sometimes bearing stains of dubious nature. She does keep her clothes in good repair though, stains or no; she doesn't have the extra income to be spending on extra clothes every single season, so what clothes she owns have to last.

Emya is a woman with a curious nature. She is watchful and quiet, and it wouldn't be incorrect to assume from this that she's at least a little bit shy. Certainly she approaches new and unfamiliar things with a healthy amount of caution, watching at length before she makes an approach and thinking about every uncertainty. She avoids conflict whenever possible and is noticeably quiet in social situations, especially around new people. Yet despite a lifelong struggle with her own natural reticence, Emya routinely does just that; she willingly ventures into strange places and speaks with total strangers despite the sweaty, heart-hammering discomfort that comes along with it. Nerve-wracking as it may be to take risks with new people or places, the core of curiosity which drives her is simply too unrelenting to allow her to wallow in the comfort of the safe and well-known. Emya's life is a cycle of anxious, straining curiosity followed by urgent concentration, then finally relief and pride at coming out the other side of an experience mostly unscathed. Over turns of this lifestyle she has mellowed somewhat, and now comes across as simply quiet rather than nervous and overwhelmed, but there are still times when Emya needs to take some time to herself in order to relax and put herself together.
Generally speaking, Emya is a good-natured person with a generous amount of empathy. She happily does favours for her friends and makes an effort to be kind to everyone she speaks to. Though she can at times become absorbed in her craft, and will work in solitude or under the supervision of her master for days at a time, she always emerges from her projects eager to catch up with friends, and during this time is at her most likely to be outgoing in social situations. Often this atypical loquaciousness is accompanied with thorough exultations about the details of her work, which she loves sharing with anyone who expresses even the slightest amount of interest. When not assisting her mentor with lab work or studying written texts on biotech, Emya can be found examining all manner of flora and fauna, whether she's sketching striders in their pens or accompanying parties into the wilderness to look at the Green Star's native plants. Despite the decline of genetic modification among techcrafters, Emya is dead set on specialising in biotechcraft, and to this end intends to return to Pern one day to study under a master.

2893 . Emya was born in the summer, the first and only child of the textile merchant Siya and her husband Emdrin. Their family was only a small part of a larger clan of travelling merchants who made a living on the dangerous roads between the northern holds. Despite the increasing risk of making a living this way, the caravan family stuck stubbornly to their trader ways, as they had for generations. Emya grew up constantly on the move, seeing many different places and meeting all kinds of people from behind the safety of her mother's skirts. She spent most of her childhood helping her family take stock of their wares or maintain the motley collection of wagons and animals, and playing with her younger cousins, especially aunt Anya's sons Tomyas and Yann.
2907 . The trader family's luck came to an end when their caravan was attacked by Fort riders while journeying between Fort Hold and Southern Boll. The road echoed with roars and screams as the clan was first warned away from their wagons with dragonfire, then left to watch as most of their goods were either stolen or burned. Emdrin's leg was crushed by an overturned wagon during the attack, and Tomyas vanished completely. Although the family remained in the area for a few days to search for Tomyas and salvage what they could from the ruins of their caravan, Emdrin's leg desperately needed medical attention and their journey to the Hold could not wait. The caravan continued south to Southern Boll. They stayed there for the better part of the month while Emdrin's leg began to heal, hoping that someone would have news of Tomyas, but no news came.
2908 . Emya became apprenticed to a techcrafter named Torleif who was returning to Landing Weyr and the Technician's Hall there. DON'T MAKE ME EXPLAIN THIS I DON'T GIVE A FUCK.
2910-2911 . Two turns after she began her apprenticeship under Torleif, one of the goldriders at Landing Weyr began recruiting riders and crafters with the intention of founding a new Weyr on the largely-unexplored Green Star. Torleif jumped at the opportunity to move his craft to a new world, and Emya followed him gladly. After a period of packing and preparation, during which time Emya sent a message off with one of the Weyr's messenger flits to inform her family of her whereabouts, both journeyman and apprentice climbed aboard a dragon with its rider and were whisked away to Discovery Weyr.
2912 . On her 19th turnday, Torleif gifted his apprentice with a pair of small firelizard eggs which he'd bartered from an acquaintance. Both eggs hatched little green flits within a couple of sevendays, and after successfully Impressing them with bribes of goat meat, Emya named the young greens Astrid and Katla.
2912-2913 . A few months later, Emya began to grow close to a shy techcraft apprentice with whom she had become familiar with since the move to Discovery. Although he was a turn younger than she was, Petekir was already a brilliant crafter who with the potential to earn journeyman status any day. The two spent time together often and were dating by midwinter. For many months they were inseparable, whether they were collaborating on projects or exploring the Weyr. But when the weather warmed and spring became summer, Petekir went away on a solo expedition and did not come back. Search parties were sent out and returned empty handed. Emma grew frantic, and by the time her twentieth turn day arrived she had fallen into a deep depression. But as chance would have it, the mystery of Petekir's disappearance was solved when Torleif took Emya across the lake to look at the beastcrafter's striders. She and Torleif split up when they arrived, and who did Emya see there but Petekir in the embrace of another woman. When she rushed up to him in shock, he explained that he had been injured in the wilds, and that Kiwenni had found him and nursed him back to health. He had fallen for the beautiful beastcrafter, and had been too ashamed to return and face her.
Emya didn't say another word to him. She turned around and left, ignoring his halfhearted apologies. She found Torleif and asked to go back home, only telling him what had happened after he agreed that they could leave. The next day her teacher disappeared back across the lake with a thunderous expression and a flimsy story about forgetting something at the Crafthall. Since then, there have been no boyfriends. Emya has stuck to spending time on her craft and her friends, determined not to give another thought to the man who threw her love away.
