She had been here for just over a turn now, and had made a claim for her little hut in the Handler Quarters. There had been enough to entertain her for the most part, the need for a proper technician to oversee the layout for irrigation systems and to show them the best way to spread their resources over the area that they had. She hoped to be able to get a printer here in the future, as well as a generator or two, but that seemed like wishful thinking, really. The technology to build was dying out, technicians were spending more of their time simply maintaining their goods back on Pern. And there was not nearly the resources here to start up building all that she wished she could build. No love would be coming from back on Pern to share their resources, especially not the kind she would need. Those were exactly the sort of resources that people back home were killing each other for.

Her number one request here at Discovery? The constant fabrication of telescopes, the sort that were handheld and allowed riders on dragonback to get a closer view of things far away. Better to spot things at a distance than to have to fly right to it and find out there might be a problem, or you were incorrect in thinking of what you had seen. With an apprentice or two, she was able to keep a steady flow of the things going, but with more riders coming in every day there was a constant need for more. This was the type of tool that people didn't want to share, for the chance that they might not be able to get it back to use the next day. And it wasn't just for riders, beastcrafters and other crafters who went out and about in the wilds wanted to have some. So she was commissioned again and again to create them, and not the fancy kind, just the kind that worked well.

She sat at her table, various pieces of technology littering its surface, and stared down at the glass. It was boring work, to do the same thing over and over. It was simply not what she had joined the Techcraft for. Of course, what she joined was something dying altogether, and there was no way to replicate out here in the wilderness of the Green Star. The technology simply didn't exist out here, and she did not have the vast knowledge to recreate it. Still...she would rather be doing anything right now, rather than focusing on this simple task...making a million hand held telescopes...

Karaenys leaned back in her chair and stretched her arms in a great yawn, then stood and pushed the chair under the table. With one last distasteful look at the glass and metal bitson the table, she moved away. Karaesk was sleeping, though not deeply. Whers were far less nocturnal now that they had the invention of the shaded glass goggles to protect their eyes, but even the best of whers would sleep during the day if their bonded was doing something like tedious craftwork.

"Shall we go for a walk?" she asked his sleeping figure, resting a hand on his head. Slowly Karaesk roused from his slumber, eyes opening beneath shaded glass as he considered his handler. She backed away for a moment to allow the brown to stretch, much like she had mere moments ago. When he stood, he pressed his head into her palm, It will feel good to stretch, he said in his deep voice, so familiar as it breezed through her mind. She smiled and nodded to the beast, and the pair set out on their walk.

Neraidys was a Soldier and despite her having a wher it was still weird sometimes to think this was her home now. She'd taken to it well and so had her children for which she was grateful, she wondered when her father would meet with her. She Neraidys knew that he was around and he enjoyed being around his family even if he had made quite the large and diverse family. Neraidys herself had spread out some too what with her number of children that were here on the Green Star. It was part of the reason she came here was to hopefully spend more time with her children and less time fighting. There were parts of her that were still a little haunted by what part she'd played in the Resource Wars, she adjusted her clothing and made sure that Neraiysk's goggles were in place. She was taking him out for a walk and hopefully the children would behave this time because she was stopping by to get them as well.

Neraidys stopped at the Creche first, as soon as she got there it was Tolera and Nolinar that came running out to greet her. Tolera was holding Nolinar's hand, "Mommy!" She cried as she ran to her and Neraidys dropped to her knees with a smile and hugged her daughter picking her and her brother up. "Hello Tolera my dear and you too Nolinar. When did you two get so big?" She asked as she stood looking for her oldest boy where had Nerigan gone now, she'd asked him to stay with his siblings for a candlemark so they could all go out on an outing together but as usual the boy was off doing his craft stuff. It didn't bother her much as she set Tolera on Neraidysk's back along with Nolinar in front of his sister, "Hold onto him Tolera." She told her daughter as she nudged Neraidysk to get on with moving. Come on Neraidysk we promised them a ride let's give it to them. Neraidys said to her wher who rumbled somewhat displeased he was a common pack mule at the moment but it was mostly amused.

Neraidysk looked at his bonded as he heard foot falls in the way they were coming to, There is someone there. Another Wher and handler. Neraidysk said to her as he stood still for a moment till Neraidys nudged his side because she didn't need him getting aggressive with the children on his back. Neraidysk growled softly, the rumble had both children stiffening slightly they didn't like that sound. "It's ok dear ones he's just smelling another wher." Neraidys told her two children, Nolinar whined and nodded he didn't like the idea of another wher not close to them.

"Greetings!" Neraidys called when she saw the brown and his partner, the wher was a crossbred if Neraidys could guess. He was still a good mix of Race and War, he was a good specimen but not the kind that Neraidys would like she prefered her purebred War Wher in the form of Neraidysk. Neraidysk stood on guard next to Neraidys with the two children on his back he couldn't very well attack the other male so he stayed near her and made it clear he wasn't pleased by another so close.

They were...a rather loud bunch really. But what else could be expected from a group that included small children? They were a rather new bunch at Discovery, and quite a small portion of what seemed to be a very large family. Karaenys was part of a rather large family herself, but it had been so long since she had physically been with them. And she had never had children of her own, so this wasn't some symbol of her past self that she was looking at, but some ghost vision of what her sisters likely looked like. Namely Raena, as she had two children of her own. Of course, she was fairly certain that Nysnya would likely be following suit soon, her own husband in tow. Even Karaen was advancing with a girl he was likely to marry soon, and then Karaenys would be the only one of her siblings not paired off and making a family of her own.

A small thought flashed through her mind, of what could have been if she had settled down when she was intending to. But it passed through quickly, that had been a very fleeting moment in her life, and it was so suddenly and thoroughly removed by the fact that the man in question had disappeared between turns ago, trying to just discover this place. He was now such a small portion of her life, and she had her wher and had become a Master, and now lived on a whole other star from the only one they had known for so long. She was beyond mourning for him, and beyond dreaming about what their days could have looked like, though she was, in a small way, continuing his work here on the Green Star.

But then, none of her thoughts truly mattered at the moment, as the woman was smiling at her from a distance and greeting her, her two children hanging all about her blue combat wher, not much smaller than Karaesk. Karaenys smiled at her openly, "Greetings," she called back in kind. She wasn't terribly familiar with the newcomers, but she was happy enough to have the population of their small Weyr constantly growing. And whers were a great asset, especially the combat whers, given the attack that had recently happened. Though, they were highly prized back on Pern as well, which meant that they did not come to Discovery as often as others did. Even so, they had an Iron captain to follow, and there were great hopes to get a gold or two to come to the Weyr. But that was far off.

"You're fairly new here, are you not?" she asked, moving forward. Karaesk walked beside her, not paying any attention to the blue before him. He was not some stupid combat wher who lunged at everything in his path, nor was he so stupidly territorial that he would think that any male who crossed his path needed to be taken down. Should the blue act aggressively, there would be a battle worth watching, but for now the other male was not at all considered to be a threat. In fact, he was more considered an acceptable colleague of sorts, a fellow wher working to maintain the safety and respectability of their home. "I'm Karaenys, and this is Karaesk," she continued, smiling to the other handler. "Are these your children? They're lovely."
