OOC Name: Jewel

Iraven is tall for his age, about five and a half feet already, and judging by his awkwardly long legs and arms, he's going to keep growing. He still has some baby fat on him, which he hates, and he hopes that if he Impresses it will whip him into shape so he grows some muscles. Iraven has light skin, and a tendency to get sunburned rather than tanning. He hasn't started growing facial hair yet, and he has a round, youthful face with puppy-dog brown eyes. Honestly, if the Cook calls him cute one more time… His hair is a lighter brown, and he wears it long, and usually messy. Iraven dislikes dressing up, and he is almost always seen in casual, comfortable items. Occasionally he can be persuaded into formal wear for a feast.
Iraven was born in 2900, a few turns after the Resource War broke out. He's never known anything but war, and as a consequence, he has a somewhat blasé attitude towards it. Not particularly interested in politics, he would rather be out exploring and having fun regardless of who's in charge. He has a healthy disrespect for danger and a sense of invincibility typical for teenagers. Iraven is an adrenaline junkie, always seeking a new thrill. Impulsive as well, he usually doesn't think it through before embarking on a new adventure.
Relentlessly optimistic, Iraven can find a bright side in just about anything. Not one to give up easily, he'll keep trying even after failing at something. Along with that, he can also be as stubborn as an old herdbeast. Once he's set his sights on something, it takes a lot to change his mind. If it's a bad idea, he usually has to learn the hard way. Fortunately, his mind also changes frequently, especially at this age. Iraven's interests always seem to be changing. He wants to learn and experience everything. At fourteen, he's just started candidacy and he's thinking of taking on a Craft too, but he hasn't decided which field yet.
Iraven is fearlessly socially as well. He's an extrovert, and he thrives around people. Although he does have an independent streak--he doesn't like being told what to do--he also likes being in a group. Or being in charge of a group. He also loves talking others into participating in his crazy stunts. Iraven is pretty easygoing, and if he's not getting along with someone, he'll just let them drop out of the picture. He's not one for fighting, especially with peers. Sometimes he might give some lip to an authority figure, but there's no sense holding grudges against other candidates or weyrfolk. Iraven is quite open-minded as well, with weyrbred attitudes towards most things. Just do what you want to do, as long as you're not hurting anyone.
Born in a Nabol cothold in turn 2900, the illegitimate son of the Lady Holder Hira and the High Reaches Weyrharper, G'ven. He was only there for a few months before being sent to the Weyr, to avoid the political upheaval that might be caused by an illegitimate child. There, he was raised in the creche like any weyrbred child.
A precocious child, he did well in his Harper lessons, possibly taking after his father. Iraven wasn't too close to the man, although the Bluerider was definitely present in his life. As for his mother, she was more like a favorite aunt he saw once in a while. If anything, he was closest to "aunt" Ghita, especially as he got a bit older and could relate to her more.
His mother's death came as something of a shock. Until then, the war hadn't seemed completely real. More like an everyday fact of life, but not something he had to worry about. It changed his thoughts on it a little. He couldn't say he mourned Hira, since he didn't know her well, but he could see how it affected Ghita and G'ven.
When Ghita suggested bringing him to the green star, she didn't face much resistance. Iraven had been hearing about the other planet since he was a little kid and had always been fascinated by it, and he couldn't think of anything more exciting to do. Having recently turned 14, he became a candidate, not bothered in the least by the fact that some of the other candidates were twice his age. Might as well get an early start, right?
